What's in it

It starts with a tea base, we use our gourmet loose leaf teas.  Then we add sweeteners and flavors.  If it's a Milk Tea, a creamy component is added, such as milk, almond milk, or non-dairy creamers.  Clear Teas are just that... Clear, and don't have a cream added.  Once the ingredients are all together, the drink gets shaken real good! This makes the drink nice and frothy, which looks like bubbles on top... hence the name bubble tea.  The fun of bubble tea comes from the small chewy tapioca pearls, aka: boba, we add a hefty scoop at the bottom of each drink, adding a chewy contrast to the sweetness and texture of the drink.  There are endless variations, everything from strawberry, taro, chocolate,  almond, lavender, coffee and tea can be used to flavor the drink. Some of the versions are thin, sweetened tea versions while others are rich and thick.

History of the drink

Unlike many other beverages, this drink is a recent invention, first created in the 1980s in Taiwan.  One day, a Taiwanese tea stand had the bright idea of adding tapioca pearls to their frothy tea drinks to create imaginative and tasty beverages. Because these drinks had bubbles at the top (the froth) and at the bottom (the pearls), they became known as bubble tea.  Today, Bubble Tea is "the drink" in Asia and growing popularity around the globe.

More on the pearls

Tapioca pearls are made from cassava root. Cassava roots contain significant amounts of calcium and vitamin c.  We boil the tapioca pearls which makes them soft and chewy. Then we sweeten them with brown sugar and honey making them into their sweet, yummy selves! To enjoy, sip them up through your Fat Straw for a fun textural contrast to your tea!

Popping Pearls are made from a seaweed extract with fruit juice flavoring inside that "pop"s once bitten into. It has gained large popularity with the rise of frozen yogurt and is pleasantly, not overly, sweet.  And now you can have it un your Bubble Tea too! With flavors such as Mango, Strawberry, Pomegranate and Peach, there is much more room for customization and flavor pairings. When you sip our popping pearls through your fat straw they'll burst out fruit juice for an exciting experience!
